The Hypocrites

I had a dream of visiting heaven; a place I've never been before...

Although it did look familiar...with golden streets, crystal seas, and more.

I took a step but couldn’t go,

That’s how it is in dreams, you know.

But the thing that was strange is...everyone else passed me by...

After awhile in my dream...I yelled out to God, “Why?”

It was hard to take just standing there...and not being allowed to go in…

Knowing...I had always tried to do right and been as good as these people had ever been.

How could this be? I was a always a good man, never hurt no one,

I always thought God would see that when my time was done.

A voice came quiet and still to me,

“Look at those people and tell me what you see?”

“I see the ones that on Earth were Hypocrites,” I said, (*)

“They said one thing and did the opposite. Now...It looks like they are dead!

Why...Is it they are free to walk about in your heaven and I am not, O’ Lord?”

“It is true on Earth…,” said He, “Many times these people did not abide by all my Word,

And it is true...that they had many faults...which you are well aware...

But they each sought me out...right or wrong...whereas you… you didn’t care.

That is why...when their life on Earth had ended,

They were called to be with my Son...who they had befriended.

A simple thing to believe in him...was all I asked of you,

But you let other peoples actions...guide you in what to do.

And you hoped to stand before me someday...to have these people be your excuse?

“The Hypocrites kept me from you, Lord”...Is that what you planned to use?

Surely...I say before you this day...

That it was not those people who got in your way.

But...Your “hard-heartedness” for me...and my people,...

Kept you away from me…and anything having to do with a steeple.

And made you angry enough to give them the blame...

Then...You used this reason to reject my Son when you knew his name.

One does not have to be perfect to enter here or be above any blame...

It was for that very reason that my Son came.

But...You don’t even understand what I tell you...because you are blind...

Your anger for the ones that were Hypocrites...weighs too much on your mind.

Now...Look around as you stand blocked at the front of heaven’s door...

Look at the Ones you called Hypocrites before!

And see...that with all their problems...I let them in...

Not because they were perfect...or even free from sin.

But because...they sought a relationship with my Son while they were on your planet...

They may have been "mixed-up" with what they said, but they did not take him for granted.

So now...When their time has come to enter Eternity...

They will be spending it...right here with me.

While you the one that judged each of these people...as a Hypocrite,

Will...Unfortunately...be spending eternity in a place known as Hell Fires Pit!”

(*) Poem Author's Note: Consider your thinking on whether "two-faced" hypocritical people keep you away from a relationship with Jesus Christ. Please…Do not let other people’s actions get in the way of your thinking or getting to know Him...That’s all I’m asking!

I believe that'd preach. He loves us as we are and enough not to keep us as we are. He's still working on me.

Howdy Putz Ballard...It's just something that weighed heavy on my mind...I believe we all have our own spiritual journey to take through this life...and that we are very connected to the spiritual world around us. And also...I agree with you 100%...He loves us as we are...Plus, I know...he's still workin' on me...for sure! Humbly, MPM

I really enjoyed this one. It would certainly garner a lot of attention as a thread in the Religion Forums! In all seriousness, this does provoke a lot of thought. Thank you for sharing this with all of us.

dohn121: Thank you for reading it! I commented below on what you said about the Religion Forums and how this does provoke alot of thought:

It really is designed to provoke thought. Personally, I have known folks who told me that they could not believe in God or Jesus....because of "The Hypocrites". Really...that's what you want to base any of your thinking on...is how others act? Granted...people acting hypocritical is enough to make you ill...but...in the end run...they don't do your thinking for you...if you are on a personal spiritual journey! Anyways...sorry to go off on the topic while commenting on your comment...I think I'll stay out of the Religion Forum myself. Each side has their mind made up in there already...so what's the point? Plus, I would have to join in the Relationship with Jesus Forum...because...I am not a Religous Person...Religion means following a set of Man's Laws pertaining to God...Exactly what Jesus came to abolish on this planet! By the way...Thank you for your comment, MPM.

Thank you so much for sharing this poem with your readers! So many people make the mistake of being influenced by people instead of listening to their inner voice reaching out for a better relationship with Jesus.

Excellent as usual!

Laura: Exactly...Thank you for summing up exactly what this poem message is all about. So many times I have heard folks-brilliant folks-say I can't do this or that because of all the "hypocrites"...and I stand back and think "Wow"...you base your train of thinking on other people's words and actions...Really? Humans are Strange People...and you want to base your thinking on a bunch of "Bozo's"...and how they behave...? I got no words in my head at the moment for that kind of thinking...Thankfully this Poem can do all the talking! Thank you for your great comment and for reading this Poem...Humbly, MPM.

Yes, now, and about the subject of dreams in the forums...see what I mean, my friend. You paint words with all kinds of symbols as if they were a form of dreaming. And such a strong powerful message this poem is. I look forward to reading lots more. Love your stuff, my friend.

Daniel: You make an interesting point about painting words with symbols...like they were a form of dreaming. Can I borrow that line in a future poem...that's a pretty good line! That is only what I would hope to do...at the very least...would be to leave the reader with some kind of imagary from my style of Poetry. Thanks for what you said about this one, my friend...And for stopping by and reading my simple "manly"-style poem on Hypocrites. See ya' around on the ol' Hub Pages World...Sincerely, MPM

Everyone has their own beliefs in Religion, The Creator, Hell or Heaven...but the point of the poem itself breaks all barriers of beliefs because it really makes you stop and examine your thinking. We may think we are good people but do we sometimes unknowingly judge others? This was a greatly written poem and a good moral to it too! I loved it!

manlypoetryman profile image

manlypoetryman Hub Author 2 years ago

Yes, JJ Pachuca...I think the point to this one can break all barriers of beliefs...if you look at it openly. Does our thinking about others or others thinking...get in the way of our own unique "spiritual journey" across time and the planet? I would want to answer "No"...when my time on Earth is done. I would want to say that I sought my own path on my own "spiritual journey"...and I did not judge others or let their actions influence my thinking. Thank you so much for your comment and for getting into the point of the poem while reading it. I appreciate that and your comments. Humbly, MPM.

Do not let other people’s actions get in the way of your thinking or getting to know Him! But to know him is avoid hypocrisy, as well. I hope I'm not a hypocrite today! Great write.

Mickey Dee: I agree with you. And I hope that I'm not a Hypocrite either...on this day...or others to come. That's a great hope for this day, MD. Pure and Simple. This comes from friends and workmates I've tried to share with who did not want to listen to anything I said...because of the "hypocrites" they had seen before. Seems like someone should gather a little more information...on their own...before deciding to blame stuff on others...before even looking in to something ! That's all...bottom line. Please everyone out there...make your own "informed" decisions. That's all I'm trying to say! Thank you very much for this comment, MD!
