My Daughter's Smile Poem

For the Little Girl who became a Woman faster than Dad was ready for...

My Daughter’s Smile

Of all the hard work I’ve done that was ever worthwhile,

It really only paid off to see my daughter smile.

When my daughter was young…she would wait for me,

To finish up yard work, and watch “Funniest Videos” on TV.

But alas, those days are long gone…

But don’t get me wrong…it is good that she’s moved on.

I tell myself, “God made us to grow into who we would be,

Each one of us has a trip to take to begin our own personal journey.”

My daughter had her own unique childhood…as did I,

So just because she’s gone and left the nest…don’t mean I got’ta cry!

Daughter’s are their own unique breed…its’ surely true,

One day you can do no wrong…then later on she looks real funny at you!

That’s just part of being a Dad…my friend,

Hang on and enjoy the ride…till the end!

Your daughter has to grow up and go through each phase,

Those were good times back then…Yeah…good days!

It’s time for her to become the woman that you’re hard work helped create,

She will become a fine young lady, and some “goofball’s” perfect mate.

First its’ off to college… and then coming up real soon…

She gets her own apartment…But, today she called me up this afternoon.

“Hi Dad,” She says, “…I haven’t talked with you in a while,”

I thank the Lord above for my little girl…She always makes me smile.

It wasn’t easy to see her grow up…it dawned on me as she hit high school…

I must confess…It hurt real bad… but us Dad(s)…have to play it cool!

“My lil’ girl is older now…Won’t be too much longer before she’s grown!”

C’mon Dad(s) out there…Be tough for her…for that day she’s on her own!

Don’t cry or moan, kick and scream, or even weep…

For the little one you use to help tuck in at night to sleep.

Yeah…your daughter…She’ll be just fine…

And so will you…through the course of time.

We have forever shared the bond of being Dad and little girl for awhile…

It all returns back to me…Just to see my Daughter Smile !

Hey, I do like this, but you should write in to the hubpages people because there appear to be links to info.com on random words, even in the previous comment. Someone appears to have hacked in and done that. That happened on one of my websites before.

I'm at this point with my son. It's only right. I can remember, too well, the need to get on my own. Find my own way (tho I didn't do it well - at all) and grow. You are a great father, she is a blessed young lady!

advisor: thanks for the heads up on the links. I wrote hubpages people yesterday about how weird the last poem was acting...and asked them what was up. My score was taking a nose dive...while the comments and hits to it were coming in just fine. Didn't make sense. I'll write again about what you noticed. Oh well...it is not always full of "Silver Linings" out here in cyberspace : )

Candie V: I hear ya'...I was ready to get out on my own early, too...yet...for my daughter...I was hoping that she would take her time. But...Full Charge Ahead...She is ready to take on the World. I'm proud of her! She will do fine...and so will your Son. Hey...he had a good Mom, right?

Having two daughters of my own and hearing a dad''s point of view, i must tell you Mr. manlypoetryman that this is so nice to hear. I loved it, and you are a great dad who is handling your daughters growing up wonderfully. I'll be back!

Erin...Men do hide what they are feeling pretty good...However...All daughters are special...so don't let 'em fool ya' too much. Appreciate the support on handling my daughter's growing up. Problem is she is still busy growing up...as I type this...! Thanks for your comments.

Well i have to say, I did not have the greatest dad in the world, far from it, but when I see my husband with my daughter, especially now she has grown, I realised what I really missed. A good bond between a father and daughter is a wonderful thing to behold. Bet your daughter loves you to pieces.... xx great hub.

Sorry to hear about the relationship with your dad...not being the greatest, back slash Brenda. His Loss! My daughter will always be..."Daddy's Lil' Girl"...she just can't outgrow that...no matter how grown up she becomes...
