Sometimes I reach a point in life....where it feels like life is on "Pause"...

And I can't wait...until this point in time that I am frozen in....eventually thaws.

It is like...a great big "Pause Button"...has been pressed...that holds me here...

Oh ...the dull monotony of it all...the same-the same-the same...year after year.

Each step a struggle...to achieve the simplest things...

Each morning...looking for the hope...that each new day brings,

Another day gone...much the same...to heap upon the pile...

Another place...to be at for the moment...Is it all worthwhile ?

Faced with so many possibilities...that can never start...

How long must they play their games...Rejection begins to erode one's heart.

A New day...to watch the world pass you by...

For loss of opportunities...I could hold my head down...and cry.

A footnote...is what this time should have been...in my eyes...

A mega-long endless movie series it has become..with out rights to the franchise.

Boring...to say the least...no adventure...and lacking fun...

Working to pay-out for everything...and then get back on the treadmill...'Cause I ain't done.

It is really nothing new...

Something we all must do.

But...I would like to set off a spark...

If given a chance...Maybe...even leave my mark.

Upon this Globe...that keeps spinning 'round and 'round...

I want to jump to the next intersecting point in time and space...No...I want to bound !

Remove the shackle that encases my dream...and bust that "Pause Button"...once and for all...

I'm tired of reaching each end of the day...where all I have to show...is "I'm still standing tall !"

Depressing?...You might say...Well maybe "Yes" and...maybe "No"...

Partly because...I want to move on...Partly because...that's just how things go !

"Snow Miser"...could put the "Freeze" on anything.
Manly Poetry Man: Pausing for a moment for a pic.
Manly Poetry Man: Pausing for a moment for a pic.

I am trying to read the fine print...and trying to discover under which clause...

Where it says it is alright to keep my Life here...at this point...stuck on "Pause".

By what grand design...in the scheme of things...across the Universe...and all it displays ?

Has it become necessary to hold me here at this spot...stuck here in this time and place.

To move forward...I would...though I would stagger each step...by one step...at a time...

Surely...I move up ahead...I know that I saw that once...somewhere in my mind.

I pry back the "Pause" button that keeps me here...only to find...

That activating the "Pause" button on my life...has got me running...way far behind.

To tear out the things that hold me back...to bust out free from where I've become froze...

Takes me to the new things...just up ahead...Takes to me to new places...where no one hardly goes.

When...I get further on... and look back...at all the time my Life was on "Pause" right here...

I'll laugh that I conquered the "Pause"...(*) "I came...I saw...I kicked Its' _ss!"...Is what I'll cheer !

Interject Footnote Comment Here:

(*) "We came...We saw...We kicked Its' _ss!" Quote from the movie: Ghostbusters
(*) "We came...We saw...We kicked Its' _ss!" Quote from the movie: Ghostbusters

The "Pause" is lifted for me now...and things around me...start moving once again...

And I am free to move all around once again...Out there...moving with the driftin' wind.

There'll be no more "Pause" Buttons on our lifes...From this point on...we move the ball down field...on a well-coordinated Offense Attack...

So join with me...and rip your "Pause" button away...that holds each and everyone of us...back !

Manly...Thoughtful and entertaining poem...much in common with old Rudyard...

For some reason, probably my commercially conditioned life, I immediately thought " The Pause that refreshes " after reading the title...then, after consideration, I felt it most apropos..take a break from life, recharge, renew, and re-enter life on your own terms...

I really enjoyed this.. Thank you my friend, Larry

maven101: HHHMMM..."The Pause the refreshes...!?" You my friend...need to put down the remote...and back away slowly from the TV...Ha (just kiddin' ya'!)! This poem is probably from my own life...being stuck in front of the TV...too much with all the record cold weather...I keep putting the DVR or DVD player on "Pause"...everytime I get up.(Funny thing about "Pause"...everytime you hit it...everything stops right where you left it!?) My Life feels like it is on "Pause"...as well during this season. My spirit will be renewed to enter back to life on my own terms once again...as you said....with the awakening of Spring which is around the corner...down here in "H" town. Thanks for stopping in and reading this one. Humblest regards, MPM

Well done, Manly. I however, think I need more pauses in my life. Things are going a bit too fast for my tastes (my niece and nephews are growing up way too fast). But time waits for no for no man, not even a manly poetry man :)

manlypoetryman profile image

dohn121: "Time waits for no man!"...Ha! That was a good one, my friend...Much Humor abounds with that comment. I guess that having a "Pause" Button that works for our lifes could work on either side of the clock. Both to slow things down...as in the case of your niece and nephews growing too fast for ya'...and for a "Pause" Button to be removed...as in my own life...so that life can start moving along...once again! Thank you for your comment...and for stoppin' in for a visit...Talk with ya' later on, (Past all the "pauses in life) Sincerely, MPM

Maybe I'm on a different planet but I wish I had a "pause" button because it all too often feels as if there are not enough hours in a day or days in a week. I want to be able to stop and smell the roses, spend more time with my grandchildren and less time putting out fires and chasing after wind. Great poem - as usual - thanks for sharing!

I'v been stuck on pause to many times.Lookng out a the world and people around me moving forward.Getting ahead.Pause is in the eye of the beholder I guess.Somedays my eyes try to push that pause button TO pause.Sometimes I hit that pause button to get myself moving again.I'v found that out of the depths I usually rise higher that I was before.Great poem I very much enjoyed it...

Manly, there are days when I am on pause and it's just as you describe it and there are days when I am desperately looking for the pause button! lol! One of these days I'm gonna be in synch -- I hope!

Sometimes, the "Pause" button is a good thing to have around. We sometimes overextend the things Jesus wants us to do and we get into the realm of "I can figure the rest out." We go beyond the boundaries.

So, before we drive over the cliff of our own understanding, "pause" puts on the brakes for us to fall back, regroup and get it done the way He wants it done.

Flightkeeper: I know right!? One sec...you're (As in...all of us!) going hold on...things are going by way to fast....It's like watching an Indy car go by. The next...it is like...Ho Hum...slow motion..."Get me out'ta here"...like time just came to a slow crawl. What's up with that? Give us back our own remotes...so we can control the "Pauses"...Please...for "gosh-darn" sake! Well...it is a little bit dramatic to shout-out such a thing...However...It does some appropiate at times. Here's wishing you get it ironed out and back in synch...better than I ever will! Unchained Grace: Yes...'tis true...sometimes the "Pause" Button is a good thing to have around...for sure. We often do go beyond boundaries..."Amen" to that...I'm quite good at over-shootin' the boundaries myself! Fall back, Regroup, and Hit the "Pause"...would be a great thing...if we all came with that feature...Imagine how much stupid stuff we would avoid!? But, I believe that Jesus would have us learn a few things...while here on the planet...and sometimes the only way we'll ever move forward...is with the dang ol' "Pause" Button ripped-off! Thanks for your comment, U.C. More Power To Ya'! Appreciate you stoppin' in for a read on "Life on Pause". Humble Regards, MPM

Ahh, the 'pause' button. This is quite an amazing piece! :) I had often wished for a pause and have lived one in a sense for a bit now.. oh, to come out of pause.. Hahahahaha! All the same, somethings just don't slow enough, even if we do. Though we can slow to appreciate them, in the moment.. Excellent!

I*n*v*i*c*t*u*s: That dang 'ol "Pause" Button...Just who keeps pressing it...Ha! One minute...we are stuck over and over in time...The next...Everything is just passing us right by. But of the two different modes...I myself would choose...the one where things fly by "Off of Pause". The dull monotony contributes to a dull "Pause" in one's life...IMHO ! Hey, I*n*v*i*c*t*u*s...Good to see ya'...Thanks for stoppin' in to read this one, my friend.

Have a good one...Enjoy your poetic thoughts of puddles of lovliness...with or without the "Pause" button being engaged...as I know you will! Sincerely, MPM

WOW, so glad I found you, I was following a lead from IntematEvolutions new hub titled, my sixtieth hub where you are mentioned.

A brilliant poem, that everyone and their brother can relate to. I am forever overwhelmed with the demands and challenges of every day life. I don't know about anyone else, but I sure would love to have a pause button. I vote for the pause button. Life on hold for a short time could be a good thing.

Needless to say, "Life is Good!"

Hey Manly,

It's been a while since I've been reading Hubs. Every time I go onto the dramatic poetry section I see this poem.

I read it again, and again: mainly because I really didn't understand the meaning yet; life being on pause never related to me before.

After a bit of thought I realized how much I really appreciate this work. You go beyond the beauty of words and well into the beauty of the valued moments of life.

Sometimes life goes fast, sometimes slow, but without learning the new we could never grow.

Thanks again for you insight.

manlypoetryman profile image

manlypoetryman Hub Author 14 months ago

Arthur Gulumian: Jackpot...I think you got it! Although...I am glad that you had not experienced "Life on Pause" after the first few couple of reads. (Which is a good thing) Life is too short to have any dang "Pauses"...in the first place! To me...I have grown to learn that all moments are important...even the "yuck" ones that we would choose to pry back the "Pause" button on...and go on with life. Life is about every moment. That has been said before...and is very cliche'...but from my thinking on this...sometimes if I really thought about it...being stuck where I am at the moment...isn't such a bad thing!

Thanks for sharing your insight, as well...I liked the part where you stated without learning we will never grow! How True. Best and Humble Regards...Signed, MPM

Sad in one sense. Inspirational in another. I remember a movie I liked when a younger lad titled "Jeremiah Johnson" played by the actor Robert Redford. I think now of what the pause button means to me today contrasting what it meant to Jeremiah. WOW! And how many people (pause) never get the opportunity to discover the pause button, even though with it comes a struggle. Thank you.

tsmog: "Jeremiah Johnson"! So cool...Love the "Hard Charging" scene where he is so distraught and full of vengeance that he tears into the guilty party that greatly outnumbers him...in a rage...and in a full surprise charge. Love that scene! We all have a moment good and bad that we would like to forever place on "Pause" or have had the "Pause" Button ripped away for that point in time. I know I don't want to get to the end of my Life and see that I was one "Pause" button away from all my dreams...I'll tell ya' that much for sure! Thanks for your comment and for reading this one, tsmog. Humblest Regards, MPM

I believe that everyone experience this kind of pause button once in their life. Time are really amazing, it goes very fast when we enjoy something and moves very slow when we are waiting for something. So funny right? That real life pause button is real.

manlypoetryman Hub Author 8 months ago

naturalsolutions: I sure hope we only experience the "Pause" once in our life...The question is? "How long does that "once" in our life last. As for me, I've had to dwell deeper into the great DVR of life...and keep pulling out other mechanisms...and ripping out wires that lie just behind where the initial "Pause" button sat (after ripping it out!). I know...I will shut down that "Pause" feature...in my life...sooner or later...ha! My best regards to you...and thank you for leaving your great comment! Sincerely, MPM
