Joined 4 years ago from (Texas !) Boldly Writing Poems Where No Man Has Gone Before.... Last activity 2 weeks ago.

This  "Manly" Poetry "thing" came to me on a whim...when in actuality...it really has been around my whole life. I always used "Poetry"...and the writing of it...to document important occasions in my life. But, I started thinking one day...why does Poetry get such a bad rap? It really is an age old manner of communicating words into a well-thought-out and organized little blurb. So...I was sitting there thinking that I like to "write"...why then...can't I do my "writings" through Poetry?

So...with that I give you "Manly Poetry"...an idea...that I hope takes on. Men of Old could sure write them dang 'ol poems. Why can't Men assemble...some well put together words...in this modern era?

What type of Poetry...describes a Man...and his Journey upon this Earth? Should he write from the heart? Should he spread a little kooky nonsense around? Should he use it to tell tall fictional poem tales? Or even to document Historical events...in Poetry form? Or should he just try to be all flowery, frilly, and use neat-little-dainty words...and fluffy images...to portray his thoughts?

Poetry is complex...yet if you venture out and try new stuff...will people follow? Perhaps...if it is good stuff...they will! I promise you...I will always write the best "Manly" stuff I can come up with...on a variety of subjects. Some from the heart. Some from Life. And, some from this kooky 'ol brain of mine.

Hubpages has changed alot since I first started on it...and now it is time for Manly Poetry Man...to change as well...to re-invent the brand...all over again (would be the right business expression...to add at this point...ha!)

I do this for fun...and to write out my ideas. Apologize...in advance...if some of them get too wordy...like this here Profile Page...which I am going to straighten up...and put away some of the older paragraphs...up into storage!

Stay tuned..."Writing" is an adventure...and definitly a journey. I'd be obliged if you come along...and join in on this thing called "Writing" and "Poetry" with me.

Thanks...I promise you...I truly do appreciate it...and that it won't get boring!

******************************************************************************************

Manly Poetry Man's "Ever-Present" Poetic-"able" Declaration to you:

"Words come at you everyday; Poems are just a little more organized in what they have to say!"

******************************************************************************************

"Manly" Poem Topics (from this Poet) include, but are not limited to, the following: Outdoor and Nature Themes, Traveling/Personal Journey's, Spirit of a Warrior Stuff, Motivational Stuff, "Cowboy-isms", "Texas-isms", "Manly-isms", My Own Political Views, Some Nonsense "Kooky" Stuff, Anything Southwest U.S., Current News Topics, Misc. Fun Ramblings, Historical Stuff, and Especially a big emphasis on the Ones who have served our Country - Military stuff.

And I have a heart for all things Christian that honor my Savior, (and millions of others) Jesus...So you will see a few Poems mentioned with Him in mind!

That's just me...and that's just how this Good 'Ol Boy from Texas (and his Tractor) rolls!

******************************************************************************************

Poems: Get a bad rap...usually considered flowery, soft, artsy, etc. Maybe...some of that is true. But...put in the right context...Poems can get a point across with underlying stealth and quiet intelligence. Perhaps... even better than the average writings we see daily. This is Manly Poetry Man's Quest. To Boldly Go Where No Poetry Man Has Gone Before and...Boldy Write Some New Poems...!?! Sometimes Poems need to have their energy harnessed and then put on display.

Being able to write down Rhymes has always been something I just did...like some folks scribble on paper. Poetry is a natural extension of that. As I mentioned in the above...I feel like most people have the notion that Poetry is all flowery, soft, artsy, etc. Hence...Mr. Manly Poetry Man has arrived to show the world that: "Words come at you Everyday; Poems are just a little more organized in what they have to say...and can be done in a Manly Way" !

In humblest regards then...May I present to you...a couple more words (below)...about "Manly Poetry Man":

******************************************************************************************

As I get older and older, every day, I see that I stored away a lot of who I really am to be the "business" person I had aimed to be. In recent years, I have gone back to that person, in my spare time, as a writer...and as the invented: Manly Poetry Man.

That particular poetry persona name came through much thoughtful introperspection. With much humor in mind...I searched for a "marketing-style" approach to everything I wanted to justify. What I believe that Poetry can be for all of us...and even to us "Men"...and then to the World!

"Manly" Poetry inter-twines all the tales and ideas that the famous "Men" Poets of old wrote about. The ones that made their mark...in all the English Lit courses we were forced to take (and the many that I daydreamed my way through...to be far away from the confines of that class)...and brings the tales and ideas that any ol' "Man" can have...right into the present era. (*)"Intersecting with today, yesterday, and whatever...lies ahead!"

Now that...my friend...is some real "Manly" Poetry...for sure!

Welcome to my World of "Manly" Poetry.

******************************************************************************************

By the way...my real name is: Steve Walters. For More Works by Me: Steve Walters ("Manly Poetry Man") visit "Me, Steve Walters" Part of Hub World: http://hubpages.com/profile/Me%2C+Steve+Walters

******************************************************************************************

The personal journey of a Poet...is one that should always be moving along in forward gear (high or low gear-depending on the terrain)...even if you're only riding along...at the only speed that an ol' tractor like mine...can go!

Come Along and join up with me and the ol' Farmall Tractor...as we both...set out to write about whatever "Manly" topic happens to make its way through my brain...and on to the 'ol computer screen!

******************************************************************************************

A Few Strands of Barbed-Wire Fence

While driving...I witnessed a couple of Horses...trotting to the other side of a pasture. Out of nowhere...a little foal took off to catch up to them...and then it blew right by. The only thing that held it back...from going any further...was a few strands of barbed-wire fence.

    I Ain't Going Nowhere Fast...(But I Know I'll Get There Pretty Soon)

You know what? If I ever had a chance to write a Country song...It would go a little something like this... " I Ain't Going Nowhere Fast...But I Know I'll Get There Pretty Soon... I've been Shootin' For The Stars...and only landing on the Moon. It is clear...you left the Memory of us...way back...far in the past... I don't know exactly where I'm going...but I sure am getting there pretty fast !"

    At Graveside's Edge

At Graveside's Edge...is a time when you can't say everything you would like to have said...to the one being lowered in the ground. Better to say it now! My Mother-in-Law (My Wife's Mom) had a saying...much like the idea I am trying to express with this Poem. She would tell all her children that she would rather that they bring her all the flowers they wanted to give her now...instead of later (In other words...For her grave). Really...that thought is an important one. It is better to show so

The "Was" Poem...A Poem about "Was"

I was contemplating the word: "Was"...and felt certain there was something to it which gets overlooked in our regular every day thinking. The useage of "Was" is very common...when it comes to using words. Surely, there is more to "Was"...then what I was thinking? Then again...What was I thinking?

"Holding down the Fort"-13 days of Defending the Alamo

A legend was born in Texas... Actually...it was made. It was made the hard way. It came at the heftiest price that any one of us can imagine. It came at the price of Approx 185 Alamo Defenders. How can you describe the brave actions of men who realize that there will be no reinforcements...no back-up...no support...as they watch 5000 soldiers from a uniformed opposing enemy force...move in to surround them?

A testament...to my stubborn will... To Forgive myself...is harder still. For all the dumb things I have done... When I sholuld've stood my ground...instead of being on the run. As if forgetting about things...makes them go away... Often...when they return to me...I find they're there to stay.

See if it is a good thing...to just get out with the trees, the birds, and the riverbank...and just keep paddling and paddling along...to some destination...which is somewhere way up ahead!

"I'm Still Standing Right Here...And At This Moment." (Us Cowboys Never Get Knocked Down!)

A "Manly" Poetry Tale about a Young Cowboy learning the many ways it takes to become a "Man". The Young Cowboy picked up his rope from off of the dirt... His fingers were blistered from the rope sliding through...and all his muscles hurt. They had been at it all morning...and he still couldn't rope a calf...on the run... By now he was worn out...The cool morning had lead way to the breaking hot sun.

Green Grass in the Street Cracks, Dry Grass in the Yard

Some kind of strange twisted analogy is afoot...or under foot...I should say. I have babied my yard all year...yet as I stand on the burnt brown grass of my yard...I can see that within a foot of my yard...out in the hot pavement of the street...lies a beautiful green line of grass...ready to sprout out of the street crack and take over. What's up with that?

    "Urban Sprawl" - (Houston, Texas)

What can you say about "Urban Sprawl"? Neighborhoods will grow and change...in the name of "urbanization". Wildlife, Pasture land, and Woodlands will have to adapt to the new concrete monstrosities that will be built...in place of the natural setting that was there since time began. Then once all the people have jammed into the same place... the area is left to wind down to being old and decrepit. Will anybody come along to rejuvenate all the old businesses and residences in the old area? NO!

Is Poetry Art? The question above has been asked "out-loud" here on Hub Pages. It stands to wonder sometimes...What is Art? I once saw a bumper sticker on the back of a car driving along in what I would call an "Artsy" part of my town. It read: "An Artist should not have to apologize for his Art". There is a lot of power in that statement...probably too much power. Civilizations down through History are known by their Art...Greece, for i

    My "Inner-Cowboy" (A Ballad)

On a cold, foggy, wintery morning...before the first light of day...I sat at a busy big city intersection light on my way to work. As I waited for the light to turn green, so that I could go on about my way...I was suddenly changed through thoughts and time...where I imagined a different journey...and a different job that lay ahead for this cold morning. For a minute or two...My "Inner-Cowboy" became the realest thing around amongst the surreal world...that I was really in.

    The Grand Canyon Colors

Seriously...is there any place better to go on Vacation...then going way out in the Southwest...to the Grand Canyon? The Grand Canyon is so incedibly beautiful! As the Sun begins to slowly set...you are in for a real treat...as time and stripes of the land...are projected out against shadows and flickers of light...along the Grand Canyon's many cliff walls! Just ask the Eagle flying by...Or the Native Indian...dancing to the last array of colors...as the Sun slowly goes down.

Ohh...it occurred to me...that I am no different than that poor 'ol bug! There is a lesson to the futility of banging your face...against a clear barrier in there for me...perhaps to all...?!

Anniversary of an Attack, September 11, 2009

On this day on September 11, 2001… Our world became a dangerous place and lost even more innocent fun. Passenger Planes were sent to attack our own personal landmarks, Many People’s lives were snuffed out like rushing water over single sparks. The Flames cascaded from NYC towers high, And touched me, far away, where I sat at the TV to cry.

This Poem is a hard read. It was written over many hours, and done line by line with care. It is done in honor of the Vietnam War and the Forgotten War: Korean War. They shared many hardships the same. Vietnam was said to have been the first war where you never truly saw your enemy. And the Korean War has the legend of landing and the push North, that eventually led to the most famous of all retreats from the "Chosin Reservoir".
