Howdy Ya'll...This here is: Manly Poetry Man (Manly, for short). I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for coming to visit my work and to also ..."Welcome" you to Manly Poetry Man's Part of: Hub Pages.

What the heck is "Manly" Poetry...and Who is "Manly Poetry Man"?

Well...I'd like to think that my own personal "Manly" Poetry evolved from the lack of "Manly" input into the written form of media known as: "Poetry". From the long ago "Men" Poets of old...who somewhere...in this Modern World we all reside...got put away on the back end of an old shelve. Making way for an attitude that was at least percieved by my young brain...as an Elementary School Kid...that Poetry was all "Frilly, Girly, Stuffy, Artsy, Fartsy, Willy-Nilly, Other Words...which I want say at this point, And Nothing But Alot of Light, Flowery Romantic Passages".

But What Happened to some of the "Manly" Works of Old?

Such as:

Rudyard Kipling's "If"

Edgar Allen Poe's "The Raven"

Alfred, Lord Tennyson's "The Charge of the Light Brigade"

Robert Frost's "The Road Not Taken"

Sir Walter Raleigh's "Life"

William Wordsworth's "A Poet's Epitaph"

Robert Louis Stevenson's "Armies in the Fire"

Andrew Barton "Banjo" Paterson's  "The Man from Snowy River"

John Milton's Epic "Paradise Lost"

Henry Wadsworth Longfellow's Epic "Song of Hiawatha"

E.E. Cummings' Simply Put "Seeker of Truth"

And then there is any of Jim Morrison's poetry works both with or without titles. Works such as: "LAMERICA", "THE FEAR", And "THE AMERICAN NIGHT"...to name a few.

Yep...Men have been able to "bring-it" with Poetry for quite some time. "Manly" Poetry Man...will do no less...

This is where I come to write all kinds of fun stuff, serious stuff, and genuinely goofy stuff...in Poetry form. Poetry...in the form of what a "Man"  has got to say. Poetry...written in "Manly" form...because Poetry...can still be real and "Manly" at the same time...just like the days of old.

Really glad you could stop in and visit with me...for awhile. I would sure like to thank you for that. I've been working on a few "Manly" Poems for you to read and enjoy. Tell me what you think as you view a couple of 'em! I've written all kinds of "Manly" Poems...Bet you'll find one or two to your liking, my friend. Want to wish you a "good day"...and thank you once again for stoppin' on by here.

Poems: Get a bad rap...usually considered flowery, soft, artsy, etc. Maybe...some of that is true. But...put in the right context...Poems can get a point across with underlying stealth and quiet intelligence. Perhaps... even better than the average writings we see daily. This is Manly Poetry Man's Quest. To Boldly Go Where No Poetry Man Has Gone Before and...Boldy Write Some New Poems...!?! Sometimes Poems need to have their energy harnessed and then put on display.

Being able to write down Rhymes has always been something I just did...like some folks scribble on paper. Poetry is a natural extension of that. As I mentioned in the above...I feel like most people have the notion that Poetry is all flowery, soft, artsy, etc. Hence...Mr. Manly Poetry Man has arrived to show the world that: "Words come at you Everyday; Poems are just a little more organized in what they have to say...and can be done in a Manly Way" !

In humblest regards...May I present to you...more then just a few words...about "Manly Poetry Man":

******************************************************************************************

Manly Poetry Man:  was born in far away West Texas Town, and grew up in Houston (Still There at Present). Spent alot of time as a youth in East Texas (Lake Livingston Territory). Also, during many of my younger years...I worked approx. 12 summers for a variety of different Camps....in some capacity.

I personally believe that all those years of working with young people... as a young person myself...has helped to keep my own outlook "Young" throughout my life. I am grateful for the many experiences.

I attended One College in East Texas out of High School. But, graduated from a Small College in Oklahoma. Where I degreed in Management of Human Resources. Since then...I have been fortunate to work in a variety of different capacities as a Manager.

During my College Years, I had the opportunity to travel in "Up With People" (An  International Performing Group) for a year.

Later in life, I married my beautiful Wife (who is from Costa Rica), and have been able to have a wonderful Daughter and a Step-son through this marriage. Although...my Step-son was killed in Iraq while serving his Country as a United States Marine (See Below Section Honoring Him). My Daughter has gone on to be a Nurse at one of the Houston Medical Center Hospitals.

As I get older and older, every day, I see that I stored away a lot of who I really am to be the "business" person I had aimed to be. In recent years, I have gone back to that person, in my spare time, as a writer...and as the invented: Manly Poetry Man.

That particular poetry persona name came through much thoughtful introperspection. With much humor in mind...I searched for a "marketing-style" approach to everything I wanted to justify. What I believe that Poetry can be for all of us...and even to us "Men"...and then to the World!

For me...that was not such a tall order...because on a good day...I can put my thoughts (and crazy ideas) into some pretty kooky rhymes. Hey...I'm just kooky like that...what can I say? But, then why not take all the kooky notions I have...and put them into all that I believe Poetry can be !?! Now, that is what I would call "Manly" Poetry!

"Manly" Poetry inter-twines all the tales and ideas that the famous "Men" Poets of old wrote about. The ones that made their mark...in all the English Lit courses we were forced to take (and the many that I daydreamed my way through...to be far away from the confines of that class)...and brings the tales and ideas that any ol' "Man" can have...right into the present era. (*)"Intersecting with today, yesterday, and whatever...lies ahead!"

Now that...my friend...is some real "Manly" Poetry...for sure!

Welcome to my World of "Manly" Poetry...

By the way...when you get a second...stop in and visit me and the ol' Farmall Tractor. We've both been working at getting a new website of my own started at: www.manlypoetryman.com.

The personal journey of a Poet...is one that should always be moving along in forward gear (high or low gear-depending on the terrain)...even if you're only riding along...at the only speed that an ol'tractor like mine...can go!

Come Along and join up with me and the ol' Farmall Tractor...as we both...set out on this new website path.
